Fuel Efficient Cars in India – Money Savers
As far as the average Indian car buyer is concerned, fuel economy is as important a factor as the price of the vehicle. Hence, it can be observed that the manufacturers of cars in India give a lot of emphasis to the fuel efficiency of their cars. Even if you have an excellent car in all other respects, if it does not return a decent fuel economy, the car may find it hard to do well in India. The sky rocketing fuel prices have played havoc with the plans of not only the potential buyers, but also that of the carmakers here.
Here are some of the most fuel-efficient cars in India at present. The list is made according to the ARAI rated fuel economy figures and the actual figures might differ according to the driving conditions.
Honda City – With an ARAI rated mileage figure of 26 kmpl, the diesel variant of the Honda City tops the chart of most fuel efficient cars in India. Powered by a 1.5-liter i-DTEC engine, the Honda City comes coupled with a six-speed gearbox.
Honda Amaze – Before the diesel variant of the City came into picture, it was the Honda Amaze, with its fuel economy figure of 25.8 kmpl, which ruled the top space of the most fuel-efficient cars in India. Although the same 1.5-liter i-DTEC engine powers both the cars, it has been fine-tuned for better performance before installing in the City. In addition, unlike the City, the Honda Amaze has a five-speed gearbox.
Chevrolet Beat Diesel – Claiming an ARAI certified mileage of 25.44 kmpl is the small car from Chevrolet, the Beat. It runs on a 936 cc three-cylinder diesel engine capable of producing 58.5 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque. This is the smallest diesel car in India in terms of engine displacement.
Tata Nano Twist – Offering an ARAI certified mileage of 25.40 kmpl, the Tata Nano Twist is a top contender for the most fuel-efficient cars in India. the Nano is perhaps the only petrol car to return such a huge mileage, thanks to its 624 cc, twin-cylindered petrol engine. Nano comes mated with a four-speed manual transmission gearbox.
Ford Fiesta Facelift – Closely following the Nano Twist is the 2014 edition of Ford Fiesta, which claims and ARAI certified mileage of 25.01 kmpl. The newest version of the Fiesta carries a fine tuned engine as well as an aerodynamic styling, which helped in improving its fuel-efficiency.
Apart from these cars, there are many other popular cars like the Tata Indigo eCS/Tata Indica CR4, Tata Nano (25 kmpl), Hyundai Xcent Diesel (24.4 kmpl), Hyundai Grand i10 Diesel (24 kmpl) and the Toyota Etios Diesel variants (23.59 kmpl), which are highly fuel-efficient.
